Match Report
Vets Vs PHC Chiswick Vets
0 – 0 (D)
Hoping to kick start their second-half of the season, Wokingham travelled into London to the Linford Christe Stadium, the home of possibly the most cold and dismal changing rooms in the country. The changing rooms seemed to set the stage for an uninspired performance that failed to secure the full points for either side. Wokingham started brightly and created multiple chances but quickly found that not only had the PHC goalkeeper at well over six foot, an enormous reach but that he was also some considerable way from being a Vet, stopping everything that was coming his way. Wokingham dominated the play in first half but the closest they managed to a goal was when Roly Mear hit the post on the half-hour mark, having missed a couple of sitters earlier on.
Inspired by their keeper PHC started to press forward and Wokingham’s fluent performance of the 1st half gradually
disintegrated, not helped by increasingly erratic and at times bizarre umpiring decisions. Wokingham did string together a few good attacks prompted by Rik Temmink and Jas Jeeta. On the right, Richard Backhouse made some good runs but when he was pulled up for the curious offence of dribbling with the ball, Wokingham knew it was just not going to be their day. As Wokingham’s threat faded, PHC started to scent a victory and pressed forward but they could not score either thanks to some excellent defensive work from George Oliver, Russell Dob and keeper Phil Bell who gained his first clean sheet of the season.
Scorers:
MoM: George Oliver
DoD: Roland Mear
Next Game: Havant Vets
