A Warm Welcome

WHC is an ambitious club playing a good level of hockey across four men’s and three ladies teams. We have a long and proud history as being a great club to play for, both on and off the pitch, and strive to provide a warm welcome to all new members. We’re a growing club, with two new senior sides starting this season and all teams looking to progress up the leagues.

Recent promotions have seen the Ladies 1s now playing Premier 1 hockey and the Mens 1s at Regional level, and we’re looking to continue to push forward.

We also boast a strong youth section, being one of the first clubs in the County who have been re-accredited by England Hockey for the Clubs 1st award – demonstrating the excellence of our coaching and facilities and dedication to best practice and child safety.

At Wokingham you’ll not only find a standard of hockey to suit you, but you’ll benefit from a newly laid state of the art pitch, a club house by the pitch, and several Level 1 and 2 coaches dedicated to getting the best out of player and team. We play all year round, with men’s, ladies and a mixed team playing during summer and winter.

You’ll also discover the ‘Wokingham way’ – we are a Club that is renowned for its friendly nature and legendary social scene. On any given Saturday you’ll find players from the whole spectrum of the club socialising in the bar or shouting support on the sidelines – from the youth section right up to the Vets.

We have regular socials throughout the year, and even when there’s nothing official organised, it’s a rare week when at least some of the club aren’t out and about. We even put on socials for our youth section, to integrate them into the WHC ethos of a club for all.

For those who love their tours, the infamous ‘Spillage Idiots’ tour several times over summer, from local venues to European ones and the exploits and commitment to tour of the Spillagers are rarely matched – to the extent that even some Dutch players cross the channel to tour with us!

Most of all, however, Wokingham is a hockey club that is run by the players, for the players, and actively encourages all members from 6 to 80 to get involved and feel part of one club. We don’t exist just to fund flagship teams, we exist to promote an enjoyment of the sport, on and off the pitch, for every member of the club.

England Hockey

England Hockey England Hockey is the National Governing Body for the sport of Hockey. Almost all sports have one and their main aim is to promote the sport at all levels. Grass roots right through to internationally. In practice this means a number of things including:

• Running coaching courses
• Bidding for money from the Government
• Organising competitions - from international to fun mixed competitions
• Supporting the development of clubs
• Hosting and updating a Hockey based Website
• Developing cutting edge techniques to develop players
• Organising the junior player pathways
• Running the club mark affiliation process

We pay a subscription to England hockey each year equating to approximately 5% of your fee to Wokingham hockey club. This is excellent value for money as it allows us to enter competitions, get our coaches trained, achieve club mark accreditation, run our club more efficiently, access funding from other sources.
